From Carnegie’s “How to Win Friends and Influence People.

Remember a Person’s Name.

Franklin D. Roosevelt knew that one of the simplest, most obvious and most important ways of gaining good will was by remembering names and making people feel important—yet how many of us do it?” (p. 107)

Great leaders like Roosevelt and Carnegie made every effort to remember everyone’s name including servants and workers.

People may do extra favors for you if you remember their name and make them feel important.

When Carnegie was a young boy he had a rabbit which could produce more rabbits. He didn’t have enough food to feed the other rabbits. He told another kid he would name rabbits after them if they pulled clovers and dandelions to feed the rabbits. Carnegie applied this psychology when he was older. He would make deals with other wealthy people by telling them he would name a company after them.
